After a spirited journey through life, he departed this world on September 18, 2024, in Panama City, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and cherished memories.

James’ life was illuminated by his profound relationships with family and friends. He was a source of and support to his beloved niece and caregiver, Tamyra St John, and his nephew Steven, both of whom resided in Panama City, Florida. His nurturing spirit also touched the lives of nieces Kimberly (Scot) Smothers, Savannah McKinney, and Tyia McKinney, all of Shelbyville, Indiana, as well as niece Michelle Jacobs from Ft. In addition to his immediate family, James held dear the bonds with his cousins Mark Pratt (Debby) and Tim Pratt (Mary Jane), who lived in Columbus, Indiana. They all shared a warmth that can only come from treasured family connections. A good friend to many, Jeryd Colson from Greensburg, Indiana, stood by him through thick and thin, adding to the wealth of memories they created together.

He was lovingly remembered by his parents, Delbert and Dorothy (Schwind) Grimes, his sister Wilma Lance and brother-in-law Russell, and his brother Max Grimes. He was also preceded in death by cousin Phyllis Pratt and her husband Don, along with his dear nephew Jeffrey Grimes. Each of these relationships shaped his life, grounding him in love and family values that he carried throughout his years.

Though he has crossed into the great beyond, James Jay Grimes will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. His laughter, wisdom, and unwavering support will echo in the stories shared among family and friends, creating a tapestry of love and remembrance that will endure through time.
