Patricia Stoops Glas

Patricia Stoops Glas (Pat), 74, of Onaga, Kansas, peacefully passed away in Pensacola, Florida on December 29, 2024. She spent her final weeks with her daughter in Florida. Pat was born on December 3, 1950, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Upon graduation from Riverdale High School in River Ridge, Louisiana, she attended University of Washington in Seattle, Washington where she obtained her bachelors in oceanography.

After graduation, she went to work at the New York Ocean Science Laboratory in Montauk, New York. She met her husband, Robert W. Glas, in New York where he was working as a deck-mate/boat captain. They were married in 1973. They lived in Groton, Connecticut for a while and had their daughter. Pat and Bob then returned to Louisiana and had their son.

After having children, she returned to school and obtained her PhD in Zoology from Louisiana State University. Her postdoctoral research continued at the US EPA Lab in Gulf Breeze, Florida. She then took a teaching position at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Pat loved research and returned to the lab working for USDA APHIS Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory at Plum Island. Pat then moved to Kansas to help open USDA NBAF in Manhattan, Kansas. Pat retired in December 2022 after 18 years with USDA. 


Pat is survived by her children, Barbara and R. Sean (Victoria), and four grandchildren, Brayden, Paul, Luke, and Thea. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Robert W. Glas, and her parents, Robert S. and Gennieve Stoops.

In honor of her final wishes Pat’s ashes will be spread at sea with her husbands at a later date.
