Thomas “TJ” McCaleb
February 25, 1960 – November 3, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas “TJ” McCaleb on November 3, 2024, at the age of 64. TJ was a loving father, devoted brother, and caring friend to many. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and a life filled with love for family and adventure.
Born on February 25, 1960, TJ was known for his generous spirit, sharp wit, and boundless love for life. He was the proud father of two daughters, Kendra Stalls and Kerra McCunegould, and a beloved father-in-law to Randall McCunegould and Devon Stalls. He is survived by his cherished sister, Theresa McCaleb; nephew, Bobby Hutson; and Bobby’s daughter, Gracie Hutson, who all held a special place in his heart.
Though he and his children’s mother, Angela Stalls, were no longer married, TJ and Angela remained close, developing a deep friendship that extended to her husband, Paul Orio-Catungal. Their bond was a testament to TJ’s open heart and dedication to family unity.
TJ was a dedicated grandfather to seven grandchildren: Kai, Hartley, Ryvr, Tegan, McKinley, Holton, and Jack, with one more grandchild due this month. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and he took great joy in watching them play sports, cheering them on at every game. He was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his newest family member, already filled with pride and excitement.
For 40 years, TJ worked with Public Works for the City of Fort Walton Beach, where he earned the respect and friendship of his coworkers. Even after retiring, he often stopped by to check in on his friends and former coworkers, showing how much they meant to him. His dedication, kindness, and humor were known by all, and he leaves behind a lasting impression.
TJ had a love for the simple pleasures in life, like a Starbucks caramel macchiato with extra drizzle or an Oreo dream extreme cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory. He was passionate about racing RC cars, attending monster truck shows, and riding ATVs. These hobbies reflected his adventurous and youthful spirit, which he shared with his family, creating countless cherished memories. His happiest moments were spent surrounded by loved ones, whether it was sharing a laugh, cheering at a race, or simply being together.
There was truly no one in the world like TJ. He was funny, kind, and caring in a way that touched everyone he met. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of his family and friends. We are all better for having known him, and his legacy reminds us to embrace life and care deeply for one another. In his memory, may we all strive to be a little more like TJ.
A service to celebrate TJ’s life will be held [to be determined]. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to pay off his medical bills he was so worried about leaving with his family.
